The people behind Vagamundo are just as inspiring as their food. Jon and Shannon Haslett are also the founders of Niños de la Luz, a nonprofit organization that works to house street children in the Dominican Republic and Venezuela.
Most of the staff are children who have graduated from the home, as well as volunteers involved with the organization. For the long-term, this provides the youth with employment and the job experience that helps give them a future.
It took twelve years, and a family of coffee addicts for Jon and Shannon to fulfill their visions of coupling a cozy environment with the perfect cup of coffee and waffles.
They are even more ecstatic to be able to incorporate the community, too. This close-knit family has made their dreams a reality and their joy and gratitude is apparent in every sip and morsel. The team is incredibly welcoming and always give service with a smile. This off-the-beaten-path cafe has quickly turned into a happening hangout!
