Cabarete Eats: Vagamundo Coffee and Waffles

Cabarete Eats:
Vagamundo Coffee and Waffles

Delicious and unique food with a good cause

Coffee and waffles (and great wifi) is the perfect combination, so how about a café focused on serving just that! Vagamundo Coffee & Waffles is the new restaurant on the block but has already earned an exceptional reputation.

Located just opposite of La Rosa Supermercado (next to the gas station), this charming little café will have you feeling tranquilo the instant you step inside. Once you have a moment to shake off the awe of the interior, you can focus on the menu. The professionally trained baristas and locally grown coffee are evident in the taste. From their award winning 7 Summits signature coffee and refreshing nitrogen infused coffee to the traditional lattes and cappuccinos, you coffee connoisseurs will no doubt be impressed. If that sounds impressive, just wait! They put an equal amount of attention into their gourmet Liége waffles made with Belgium Pearl Sugar, then cooked to a unique doughy consistency, and finally covered in exotic toppings. If that alone doesn’t make your mouth water, how do waffles topped with jalapenos, bacon & maple syrup sound? Or if that doesn’t tickle your taste buds, what about a topping of passion fruit, mint & ricotta? They have an impressive menu with a taste for suited for every palate.

The people behind Vagamundo are just as inspiring as their food. Jon and Shannon Haslett are also the founders of Niños de la Luz, a nonprofit organization that works to house street children in the Dominican Republic and Venezuela. Most of the staff are children who have graduated from the home, as well as volunteers involved with the organization. For the long-term, this provides the youth with employment and the job experience that helps give them a future.

It took twelve years, and a family of coffee addicts for Jon and Shannon to fulfill their visions of coupling a cozy environment with the perfect cup of coffee and waffles. They are even more ecstatic to be able to incorporate the community, too. This close-knit family has made their dreams a reality and their joy and gratitude is apparent in every sip and morsel. The team is incredibly welcoming and always give service with a smile. This off-the-beaten-path cafe has quickly turned into a happening hangout, and we are delighted to welcome Vagamundo to the neighborhood!
