KB4girls Cabarete 2014

Information on the upcoming KB4girls event

On the weekend of December 5-6th, KB4girls will be making some waves with the women of kiteboarding in Cabarete, Dominican Republic. Founded by 9x World Champion Kristin Boese, KB4girls is a non-profit that not only brings the kite chicas together, but also reaches out to women and children in need around the world through fundraising events and other programs.

The weekend will be full of fun events that kick off Friday, December 5th at Dare2Fly Kiteboarding School (at Agualina Kite Resort) with a FREE surfboard wave-riding kiteboarding clinic led by Audrey Meyer at 11am. Audrey is a local professional ocean sports/fitness athlete and owner of Dare2fly Cabarete located on Kite Beach. Always the first to motivate and inspire women in Cabarete, this 3-time Master of the Ocean is certified in Physical Education, but is well versed and well known around town for her Blossom Retreats, Yoga4Sup, and a nice range of daily fitness classes.

Audrey’s training session will be followed by an optional ladies lunch at Vaca Bar, owned by Cabarete kiteboarding sweetheart Cami Cow. Vaca Bar’s menu is full of amazingly tasty items that include both breakfast and lunch plates (eggs benny and/or bacon cheese burger with homemade fries and special sauce are my favorite). The ladies lunch will offered at a discounted price. Regular prices are in the range of $300-400rd.

After lunch it’s off to the water to celebrate kiteboarding together!

Saturday, December 6th will begin with a self rescue refresher at Laurel Eastman Kiteboarding School located in Cabarete Bay (at the Millennium Resort and Spa). Because let’s face it, most of us have been lucky enough to never have to self rescue, but it is a good skill to keep in your back pocket in case anything goes wrong while you are out in the deep blue sea. Laurel, secretary for the KB4girls organization, has been a professional kiteboarder since the first hour of the sport and has made a name for herself not only through her amazing performance in the competitions in the early 2000s but also through her charismatic being and great personality. As the owner of 2 kite schools she has been involved in many other projects in kiteboarding, always with the goal to support others and the sport.

The highlight of the day will be a group downwinder to Playa Encuentro led by the LEK team and KB4girls Italy ambassador Bianca Forzano who is also the founder of up and coming brand Bianca Bikinis. The downwinder is about 6km and requires an intermediate skill level. If you can get upwind by yourself, you probably qualify, but if you have any questions ask any of the leaders of the trek what they think before entering the water.

And after an exhilarating day on the water, taxis will haul everyone back from Encuentro to LEK for afternoon cocktails on the beach mixed by Mojito Bar, provided by Laurel and the KB4girls Cabarete Chapter. Mojito Bar is very well known for their delicious sandwiches, and salads, fresh fruit juice, and yummy cocktails, namely their Mojito, of course! By the way, Mojito Bar is located just a 1 minute walk on the beach from our condos. Just head out to the beach, turn right and you will see it at the end of the bay.
